W.

First off, congrats to Stefano Tonchi as being appointed Editor-In-Chief of W Magazine.
NOW ON TO THE POINT.
What can we expect from him as W E.I.C. ?  Simply take a look at his work at T Magazine.

The woman is always the central focus, and the background is subdued and isn't the focal point. The covers are very plain and to the point, without presenting a "IN YOUR FACE" approach to how the cover model is photographed. 90'S W was very much about reality in terms of editorial. It evoked a home feeling, and the models were definatley depectited as the person you probably walked down the street with. It wasn't flashy and glamarous, yet didnt' evoke a rebellious anti-fashion attitude, which mediated the wider audience. Women were portrayed as women, with a slight edge. The editorials always had a surreal effect to them, but never relied on a heavy story as most magazines aim for now.

My previous encounters with T magazine gave me a very artsy experiential feel, that borders the high end work of Vogue and the more underground styles of i-D and Dazed . Fashion may have changed, which won't allow Tonchi to fully bring back 90's W, but we can surly get a more toned down W, separate from its counterparts.
So basically, I'm saying....
THROWBACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!
