fashion week : over.
So, Fashion Week is over, it was my first season attending the shows, and it was amazing. First and foremost, I'd like to thank all of the PR people who extended a invitation for me to attend your shows. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I am more than gracious to attend and report. I'm really excited for Oscar De La Renta ( because I was invited, duh LOL), and Elisa Palomino, Siriano, Geller, Cota, and the other shows I will be attending. My favorite shows were De La Renta, Rad Hourani, and Herve Leger. I started at Erro, and ended with Oscar De La Renta, and on the way, met amazing people in the industry who truly inspire me to attain that place "over the rainbow. It was such a thrill to attend certain shows such as Diane Von Furstenberg, and Herve Leger, and see all the personal style emulated in the tents. It was so flattering to see the large amount of readers reading my reviews after I posted them, and I really appreciate everyones support, and with your continued support, we can do even bigger and better things for S/S 2011.

MARC JACOBS F/W 2010
Review from the screen: Marc Jacobs had a very relaxed collection. I sensed a old New York woman, almost in this state of 'lazy luxury'. This season didn't prove to be as graphically pleasing as I wanted, but instead it focused more on the styling and textures. Oversized fur coats, sharply cut jackets, and asymmetrical line prints similar to the hallways, walkways and lobbies of many NYC offices were at the forefront of the collection. Here were some of the more interesting pieces to me.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA F/W 2010
SHOW: Oscar De La Renta
NOTES:
-70's Housewife
-Embossed flowers
-Oranges, reds, tans and greens
-Wet paint strokes
-Klimt
REVIEW: So I had the honor today to attend Oscar De La Renta, and I ran from my dorm on 27th street all the way to 63rd and Park avenue, the location of the show. I ABSOLUTELY DIED INSIDE sitting a few seats behind Anna Wintour, Tonne Goodman, Grace Coddington, and Hamish Bowles, the whole Vogue team in full force ( and you can see their heads in the pictures too lol). I noticed a lot of block shape prints, arranged almost like a brick wall, and fur up the wazoo. The embellished dresses and gowns were amazing, and had hints of Gustav Klimt, contrasting with the Hollywood hair and makeup. There was a wide array of colors, greens, reds, magentas, shades of red-orange, however, very few blues and cool colors.

CHRISTIAN COTA F/W 2010
SHOW: Christian Cota
NOTES:
- Graphic
-Brushstrokes
-Alien
-Space Invaders
-Gold, blue,black
-Ice Queen
-Ice
REVIEW: I got a very space alien feeling from Christian Cota. With prints that are reminiscent of lights of cars in motion, and brush strokes, it gave me a very painter feel. Some of my favorites was this strapless, wrap dress, with a belt that cinched the waist, and a off the shoulder black dress with streaks of red and gold ( both are in the 1st picture).
a big fan of the hair and makeup though.

MATTHEW AMES F/W 2010
SHOW: Matthew Ames
NOTES:
-Relaxed pants
-Laceless slip on shoes
-Harem pants
-Capes
-Relaxed work-woman
-Minimalist
-Leather
-Grey, black, sand
- Graphic cuts
- Pastels
REVIEW: Matthew Ames had such a soft strength to it. The models were stone cold as they paraded down the runway, wearing mostly leather looks, with sleek cuts. It was very minimalist, and the guest who I was sitting next to also made a Celine reference. The only thing is that I wish the colors were stronger.

ELIE TAHARI F/W 2010
SHOW: Elie Tahari
NOTES:
-Indian
-Desert
-Tans, browns, greys
- FUR!
-Knee high boots
REVIEW: Fur was all over the place at Elie Tahari! It was a presentation inside the tents, so there was no seating, and the models just kept rotating. The fur really wasn't my thing, and it was overused on the shoes and everything, but the clothes were really nice, and had a very ethnic theme. Lots of blacks, greys and browns.

somewhere over the rainbow...
I had always dreamed of going to a Marc Jacobs show. I am such a big fan of his work, and most of my student work as a graphic designer have been mockups for his brand ( look books, invitations, etc.) I swore to myself that I would go to Marc Jacobs this season, no matter what it took. It was 6:45PM and I showed up at the armory, in the cold, looking for a way in. I tried to get in with a film crew but they told me I couldn't due to the guest list being strict. My boots soaked in the rain on the sidewalk looking at the bright lights of the Armory. I walked to the side of the building and saw a open door. I went inside, and it was backstage check in. I had never wanted to go backstage, just wanted to see one of the most influential shows of my life. I guess you could say its on my bucket list, to see a Marc Jacobs show in person before I die. I went through backstage check in, didn't work, but I saw Tavi and Bryanboy go in, excited. I waited outside, and saw Jamie Bochert, one of my favorite models, EVER. I was too nervous ( and too cold) to go say hi to her. I found a entrance on the other side, and went right to hair and makeup, but security didn't let me in.
Then when they were accepting invitations, I had a white piece of paper. My mind burst with excitement, and I slowly walked through. Yet they noticed the blank sheet, and denied me entry. I stood outside, watching everyone else go in. I noticed press waiting on the other side for access, so I walked there and waited. However, security said that the show had already started, and to go home. So that was it. I walked. Yet as I walked, I accomplished something in my own mind. I tried. So it was snowing, and so cold, yet I walked really fast. At a pace to some sort of music in my head. I followed the line in the pavement all the way back to my dorm on the west side. I felt like I was walking in my own M.J. show. I knew that as I was walking, about 30-40 women dressed in Marc Jacobs were walking along at the same pace. Its 7:39 AM, the day after, and just when I decide to watch the runway video, the song is "Somewhere over the rainbow". How ironic. How fucking ironic.
People say I'm really passionate about what I do. When I tell them I'm going to the tents at 7 in the morning, or how I ran from Bryant Park to Milk Studios by foot to catch a show, they call me crazy and ask me why didn't i take a cab. They ask me why I bothered staying outside the Armory 20 mins after not getting access. I heard the runway music. I heard it from inside the armory, outside. I guess it was my sixth sense view of the show. Too many people sweat, and fight for their voice to be heard, and would die to be in a position that I am in, to even dare to run in the cold and rain to the Armory, in hopes of seeing such a show. Even though I'm off to the tents for more shows, I know, deep down inside, that at 18, im a Marc Jacobs man. Walking past security with invitations, getting my photograph taken, writing notes while in the seats of a Marc Jacobs show just maybe that land that I heard of once in a lullaby. Maybe next season the dreams that I dream of so passionately can come true. Or maybe the season after. Maybe a few more seasons. Or the season after that. Or maybe another season. Maybe another season, then I'll be far in the sky, with the clouds behind me. Maybe my passion is toward that place above the clouds next season. Or the season after. Maybe a few more seasons.

MONIQUE LHULLIER F/W 2010
SHOW: Monique Lhullier
NOTES:
-Ballerina
-Japanese
-Red lips
-Lace leggings
-Fall reds and browns
-Bows as belts
-Military
-Fur
-Structural
-Oriental
REVIEW: Monique Lhullier's F/W 2010 show was a great display of what a perfect fall collection should be. It had the essential fall colors, luxurious fall dresses, and great finale gowns. I noticed the hair in a bun, which I think is a trend that TOTALLY followed over from Marc Jacobs S/S 2010, I'm seeing it in all the shows now. The lace leggings were a highlight of the collection, and my personal favorite was a sparkled green dress (3rd pic)

RAD HOURANI F/W 2010
SHOW: RAD HOURANI
NOTES:
-BLACK BLACK BLACK!
- Men in heels!
-Latex
-Backpacks and jackets with multiple straps.
- Graphic asymmetrical cuts
-Very pale, dry makeup.
REVIEW: Rad Hourani is now my new fave mens designer. I loved each of the mens looks, it looked as if the latex material had almost warped the body and made its shape unrecognizable. The makeup gave the models a cold, frozen look, and after this show, I am now obsessed with Rad Hourani book-bags. Gift in the future, maybe?

LUCA LUCA F/W 2010
SHOW: LUCA LUCA
NOTES: - Biker chic infused
-Shimmer
- Black, dark, jewelry
-GREY GREY GREY!
-Cutouts
-Asymmetrical stitching cuts
-Poufed collars
-Splatter-paint prints
-Finger-gloves
-Dior for Luca Luca?
Luca Luca was one of those shows that made me realize that most collections work off of the woman. It was a very sleek yet feminine collection. The belts around the jackets had a slight Dior feel, but the dresses and coats ( with poufed collars ) were a signature of the collection. Overall I liked it, and the jackets will definitely sell for upcoming fall.
HERVE LEGER BY MAX AZRIA F/W 2010
SHOW: Heve Leger by Max Azria
NOTES:
- Very structured
-Gucci S/S 2010
-Graphic w. Grey/ Black
-Patches + pieces
-Sexy
-Sleek
-Shoes are HIGH AS HELL
-Futuristic
-Star Trek
REVIEW: So I had the honor to sit 3rd row at Herve Leger by Max Azria and it was a VERY good show. Totally how I feel women should dress, sexy and futuristic. The show started with these sleek body tight dresses with the metal piping as detailing, similar to Gucci S/S 2010. Soon the detailing was put on jackets, and pants, and bags. Then it moved into dresses with almost bathroom tiles in different shades of green and navy blue on the dresses. The shoes were HIGH AS HELL, and the collection created lots of look for those who want a futuristic, strong look for the fall.
