a "fashionable" music video.

I spent a good amount of time watching the music video for Madonna's "Hollywood" song and it kept giving me hints of W Magazine editorials and Steven Klein the photographer.

I did some more research and learned that Steven Klein and Madonna are very well known collaborators working particularly with W Magazine. Even though he did not direct the Hollywood music video, his influence and W's clearly rubs off into the music video. Most of Klein's work, especially for W, use the person, or model as a prop, and adds/accessorizes that prop through what they wear and finally complimenting the prop with its surroundings. The result are color coded photographs that implement contrasting colors in a harmonious way. If you are NOT graphic design literate, I'm trying to say that his photographs all work off the person in the photograph and what they are wearing. The clothes dictate the surroundings. The madonna video shows this in 7 scenes, the all pink scene with her dancing on the mattresses, the red scene where she is a dancer, the blue scene where shes playing with a aerobic ball, the yellow scene where shes sitting on the TV, the muted scene where the maid and herself are in all black to compliment the cream background, the salmon, powder pink scene where its closeup shots of her face, and the scenes of her getting botox and on a stretcher in a teal room with contrasting pink lingerie.

Just some food for thought. Hopefully Lady GaGa will stop wasting her time holding rosary's, wearing telephones on her head, and burning her John as a prostitute in her music videos, calling it fashion, and actually take notes from Madonna.

In other ways, the music video (and the lyrics) are very reminiscent of the fashion industry. Just replace the word "Hollywood" with "fashion industry" and listen to the song again.

forty outfits.

SO. If you have been FOLLOWING ME ON TWITTER  you would know that I had a interview ( well two ) at GQ Magazine for my third internship. YES I like to plan ahead, and this weekend at work (Macys Herald Square, Lacoste Section) I've been thinking of this idea to wear 40 OUTFITS to GQ. I'm sick of being the workhorse intern and slaving going on runs from Earth to Pluto while the other interns get to sit and look pretty. SO. Being that GQ seems really selective with their internship process and they get more responsibilities, which would essentially mean less runs and more office time, why not spend a ridiculous amount of money to look really nice. Even though this is TOTALLY bad being that I'm saving up so I can move to the city in November-December.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So my plan is to have 40 outfits. Probably just 40 shirts + 3 jackets. As I told a friend today, "I'm trying to outdo Emily Weiss" LOL. Well here's some ideas that I saw around the store and a few other stores, I'll keep you updated on how well my 40 outfit plan goes, even though 40 outfits and my wallet are in very much disagreement right now.

  HI.     IM.

Period. So watch it.

DKNY JEANS F/W 2010 AD CAMPAIGN.

I like these ads. Its like a lil mafia gang shopping down fifth avenue. LOL. Also, Leigh Lezark stands out so well in the bottom shot. Shot by Nathaniel Goldberg (who also shot the first W cover under Tonchi) around Chelsea, its a nice normal campaign, without the theatrics.

RUNWAY MUSIC. sia.

Such a great song. I feel like it would be appropriate for McQueen's S/S 2011 show if they don't wanna start anew with a bang.

rant.

-S O0O0O0O0O0O0O I'm learning SO much at my internship right now. I feel like I'm really growing as a more knowledgeable person in the industry and I feel this is the right place for me. Aside from the 13 hour long attempted suicide I call a work day here LOL.

- WOWOWOOWOWOWOWO Anne Christensen at Glamour! Excitingggg. I'm really interested to see all this "extended" fashion coverage Cindi is talking about.

-Just saw the Interview August cover, looks great. I love the close up shot of Marion, and the stroke of red across the page.

- REBECCA MINKOFF NOW HAS MENS ACCESSORIES UNDER THE NAME OF BEN MINKOFF! WOOOOOOOO. Check em out on www.minkette.com

july,august, SEPTEMBER.

US ELLE AUGUST 2010.
Thank GOD. They decide to do a outside shot, looks alot more appealing than their usual indoor shots.

W AUGUST 2010

YAYYYYYY Tonchi's first cover! It looks great, and the new art direction really shows. I can automatically tell its a fashion magazine without all the glitz and glam on the cover. Cant wait to see its inner contents.

V MAGAZINE

LOVE IT. Reminds me of a modern burlesque sexy cabaret, can can, Chicago girl. Whats even funnier is that the logo is a scratch off which turns the cover instantly nude, LOL.

COUTURE COUTURE! Part 2

DIOR.
The floral inspiration was probably the saving grace of the collection, since it allowed John to explore more fabrics, techniques, colors and methods he hasn't done in a while. The result was a amazing collection that showed off a newer Dior, similar to the crazy and wild antics in the early 2000's while bringing the restraint of his latest collections.

Alexander McQueen Resort 2011

Sarah's first collection for Alexander McQueen was Resort 2011, and even though it did provide a nice variety of clothes, and it clearly proves her place at the house, I am simply concerned with the amount of commercial pieces that are being used. Before her job as creative director, she was in charge of turning the collections into more commercial pieces for the boutiques, and I feel like her  prior job is influencing her current job. If she can muster up some sort of  couture-grandeur concept in her head, then she should be able to create future collections with McQueen and herself in mind.

COUTURE COUTURE! Part 1

VALENTINO.
Uhhhh, this looks like a collection more from Alessandra than these two fools. Also, wtf is up with the birdcage? Was that supposed to be the "shock" factor in the collection? It's pretty clothes and you can telll its couture, but it simply isn't up to the magical classy standards that Valentino set up himself. From most people, they called this collection "Couture for Kids" and I agree. The low heels and the very plain colors don't add not one touch of excitement to the clothing, and instead add a sense of drab and aging to young women. Even their S/S Couture collection was better than this.
ELIE SAAB.

Great collection. The clothes are dramatic and luxurious, and each piece definitely provides a WOW factor. I kinda don't like the whole "Solids vs. Prints" mash up going on, but overall its a nice collection.
