PERFECT PICK: THREE LOUISVUITTONAGA LOOKS with NET-A-PORTER

                            So I'm so happy that Nicolas Ghesquiere was announced yesterday via Louis Vuitton's Twitter as the new Artistic Director of the Women's collections. It was LITERALLY the first thing that popped up on my iPhone's notifications and of course I hollered so loud I might have woken up my neighbors. I am a HUGE stan (super-fan) of his work at Balenciaga, and I know that Louis Vuitton is about to get a major overhaul. Since Nicolas doesn't have a collection of his own, its pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to imagine what his aesthetic is, and therefore guess what a Ghesquis Vuitton, or Nicouis Vuitton, or Louis Ghesquitton collection would look like. Even harder to guess, will probably be the handbags, SLG's and accessories that are the money maker for the luxury brand. Instead of butchering his name, maybe merging Louis Vuitton's womenswear history with his Balenciaga resume will give us a little preview....

what if.....

you had your IDEAL designer to replace John Galliano at Dior? I don't have anyone in particular, but here's a WILD GOOSE CHASE GUESS of what could POTENTIALLY HYPOTHETICALLY happen if some of these designers take the spot.

Alessandra Facchinetti got fired from her most lucrative job as being head designer of Valentino, with rumors of Valentino himself being un-approving of her designs. I specifically remeber when she was designing for the house, and I thought it was great. I liked the modernized, experimental takes on Valentino staples. However, what could she do for Dior? Maybe a light "fairy-airy" Dior with hyper experimental shapes? Dior staples are pretty traditional, so i'm assuming if she did a twist it would have to be something super dramatic or extravagant. Might look like this....
Olivier Theyskens was at Nina Ricci for a while, and while I didn't even catch up on Nina Ricci until his last collection, it really opened my eyes to his talent. Dior could mean he texturize EVERYTHING, something I noticed with each of his Nina Ricci collections. Since he had that whole "princess" thing going on over there, and Dior is a little more mature, his pieces could end up looking like this...
and just for good measure....

Nicolas Ghesquière is doing a good job at Balenciaga. Actually.... a REALLY REALLY good job. He is one of my personal favorite designers, and each season he completely redefines "modern" and "futuristic" in a new form of dressing. HOWEVER.... WHAT
IFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
just by a WHIM L.V.M.H. was just like what the hell lets try it! It would be interesting to see how he tones down that futuristic craziness into something wearable without losing its touch, and if he does it well, could it potentially look like this?

SPECULATE AWAY!

REVIEW : BALENCIAGA S/S 2012

I am ADDICTED to Balenciaga's S/S 2012 collection. One of my favorite brands, this season they managed to once again pull off a comlete futuristic look in a brand new way. I love the usage of soft veurses hard fabrics, and once again the pastels and neon/metallic contrast shows up. Some of the shirt/skirt combinations give me a Greek warrior feel, while the jackets definetly give me a sexy car detailing feel. It's also really nice to see some wearable pieces from Balenciaga, minus the opening and closing pieces.

a good look. balenciaga f/w 2010.

They all have consistent color paletes from head to toe, and the shapes work well with eachother. If you are reading this and can afford Balenciaga, I reccomend these 5.

shoes.

You can play this song while I talk about em.

  The Balenciaga shoes from this season were fucking insane. Reminded me so much of Lego's ( in the best way possible) and sedimentary rock, how its composed of different colors of rock and fit altogether.

I also like the use of the the shape of the "sole" of the heel and shoe. Its almost as if the entire shoe was covered by it and chipped away to reveal the shoe. I'm a big fan of solid tones, so the powdery pastels don't sit right with me, but the design is strong enough to have any woman purchase a pair.

generation now.

        After Alexander McQueen died, Franchenetti fired from Valentino, Oliver leaving Nina Ricci....and many other actions, it makes you wonder, what exactly is wrong with certian aspects of the industry? I think its a shame that some people don't recognize that its the younger designers that get it right. It's nice to buy a Chanel bag from Karl Lagerfeld, or admire a tacky Balmain dress by Decarin, but its caught my attention that its actually the older, more mature designers that get it wrong every once in a while, whether it be in terms of originality, taste, or working under a house. Karl obviously made a doo-doo with the F/W 2010 collection, sending Chubaka after Chubaka down the runway. Decarin tries to do "youth", but delivers overly-embellished, skimpy clothes every February and September. Valentino even created his own definition of beauty, and fought for it to be appreciated and it worked; however Valentino himself isn't at the house anymore now is he. It seems that the generation of designers born between the mid 70-s, late 80's have this spark. They seem to have a better understanding of design, and yes DESIGN. Not just fashion and clothing and fabric.

        I experience this myself every day, seeing some of my fashion design friends sketch and create garments. It seems that most of them, refer to a cut, a time period in fashion, or a particular style. It helps but hinders. When your not a aspiring fashion designer, or are into another aspect of design and look in from the outside, it changes your way of thinking. All other aspects of design focus more on the world, and how you think and interpret it. Everything has a deeper meaning to it, and when explored, you tend to think beyond what's commercial, couture, and avant garde, and create a whole new category for your mind as your own resource. McQueen worked with tailors, and costume designers before he went onto create what he's done.The Mulleavy sister have degrees in Art History and Literature, and when combined, create the works of art they make today. I think that our generation in general have a more liberal and open mind when it comes to art in general, which allows the designers to think deeper in terms of concept. Older designers still seem to stick to the traditional aspect of things while trying to interpret what's new and fresh, which come off as a complete fail. Because truthfully, what fairly young woman would want youth delivered by a older person? It's similar to the relationship with my mother. It's not cool when she says "dude" specifically because she's older and to me, will never truly know the meaning of "dude" or how to interpret it. The same goes for designers. Its all fun and it sells but everyone that takes interest in fashion searches for pieces that go deep in explanation and visually reshape the human body. The designers below seem to think beyond 20's and 60's and "mod" and "punk" and "chic" and bias-cut and empire-waist and deliver design, whether its wearable or not. And even if they miss on some collections, when its a hit, its beyond anything ever seen.

Alexander McQueen ( created a truly Haute Couture house) - 40
Oliver (changed Nina Ricci) - 33
Alexander Wang - 25
Kate and Laura Mulleavy - 26 and 24
Alessandra Facchinetti ( made Valentino youthful )- 38
Jason Wu - 28
Pedro Lourenco ( showing his collection at Paris Fashion Week)- 19
Nicolas Ghesquiere (modernized Balenciaga) - 39

     Hopefully, sooner than later, "generation now" can get the respect it deserves.....

viktor & rolf / The FAINDENTS favorite designers

So, I think a big thing for you guys to know are my favorite houses. If there's a + next to them I like them VERY much.

Viktor & Rolf +++++++++++++++++++++++
Balenciaga ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Marc Jacobs +
Dior
Dolce & Gabbana ++
Alexander McQueen
Chanel
Gareth Pugh +++++++++++
Stephen Sprouse ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So one of the S/S 2010 shows that had me in awe was Viktor & Rolf's S/S 2010. Viktor & Rolf is just one of those houses that you have to appreciate, because they do avant-garde so well in such a understandable way that a 6 year old child can get it without the artsy-fartsy b.s. This season they basically used tulle as a starting concept, and slashed it away into gravity defying pieces.

There were the more realistic commercial pieces, which looked like more stripped down tulle pieces, which could work realistically in real life. I especially like the piece on Chanel Iman, which has a very lingerie quality to it, with the way the tulle is arranged.

Other pieces from the collection contained more optical illusions and more shock worthy, mind bending creations, such as the dress on the left, from which the audience saw only the top and bottom half of the dress, with the sliver in the middle gone. Previous collections from V&R have included clothes that have moving animations, clothes with their own lighting and music etc. They should be the ones to watch when the shows roll around in the Fall.

balenciaga pre-fall

   Balenciaga is just one of those fashion houses that just astound me. HOW they acheive so much sucess while keeping the same sillohette just astounds me. The head designer, Nicholas Ghesquiere is just one of those disgustingly talented people, who can take staples, and signature shapes of a house, and reinvent it every season without disappointment. One thing I have noticed, from their S/S 2010 (hoodies, sleek dresses),  and now in their pre fall, is his conversion into more urban shapes and silhouettes.

the exaggerated cuff combined with the glove creates a coal miners glove, transformed into a acessory to a high end piece.

The pants with the jacket creates a very hip-hop 80's, MC-Hammer look. I don't know if Nicholas purposefully weaves these small hints of urbanism into the designs recently, or if its totally by accident, but it is a DEFINITE innovation in his recreation of the Balenciaga shape.

hung up fashion.

At first, it was She Wolf fashion, which had sexy silhouettes and skin. Now, "Hung Up" fashion, after the music video by Madonna. This means bright poppy colors, with a mix of a street/urban vibe. And yes, I'm watching the music video.

Versace S/S 2010

Balenciaga S/S 2010

D-Squared S/S 2010

Proenza Schouler S/S 2010

The shapes and silhouettes can vary, as long as the bright colors mixed with urban vibe is maintained. Of course there are exceptions  (2nd Balenciaga picture). This woman definitely wants to hit the clubs and dance. Unfortunately, it is a Spring trend, so we will have to wait till September to see more women "Hung Up".

balenciaga s/s 2010 ad campaign

IN LOVE with this ad campaign. the graphic design is SO strong.

the composition is amazing. its so balanced without two other models on the left side. and they picked the PERFECT pieces to have as the smaller images, and as the larger image all the way across. i loved it so much i made it my desktop background. and this ad is VERY reminiscent of the earlier Balenciaga ads that incorporated  a lot of graphic design/illustration which i love.

topshop.styled.

so what is there to say
i really am a fan of Topshop. and the flagship store in SoHo ( which btw, is the only Topshop in all of North America) has the most insane sales on amazing stuff. example? the first time i bought a pair of jeans for $10. yep.) and I must say while browsing, not only did i find nice dresses, similar to pieces on the runway this season, but with nice styling, you can wear the expensive looks for less.

dress $90 -  really nice, reminds me of Balenciaga from this season. would go really nice with simple ankle leggings and some heels for a classic/traditional feel.

jacket $110 - blends right in with Balenciaga's S/S 2010. paired with these trousers and these shoes,  can give off a very futuristic feel.

dress $78 - very Dolce & Gabanna from S/S 2010. just some cute shoes and nice accessories can give you that cute La Dolce Vita look.

all very nice looks here, if your going designer for less.
click here to shop Topshop.

bye.
