ANNOUCEMENT FROM THE FAINDENT

Hey guys, I know I've been in and out of  posting, really busy with alot, lets share.

- So I'm finally moving out of my parents house. This was a BIG decison that took the whole MONTH of November for me to arrange and finalize. I'm in the process now of packing up my stuff and moving. It's in a decent location, closer to the city, so I'm very pumped for that.

- I'm ALSO in the process of transferring schools. YEP, no more FIT. It was great while I was there,  but this year interning and experiencing fashion 1 on 1, I feel a smaller school in manhattan would be more suitable.

- Ever since I left GQ, I've been contemplating on my next move. I've been doing interviews with some people with some internship offers, as well as  other offers that mix interning and actual assistant work. HELLL YEAHHHHHHH! By the end of December, around the 1 year anniversary of the blog, I'll get back to you guys on whats next.

- I WORK AT H&M !!!!!!!! In SOHO next to Dean and Deluca. So if you ever wanna stop by, ask for Warren and I'll help you pick out some cute stuff. :D

the life of a fashion editor.

Lateley, ive really been questioniong my future career in fashion. I've always wanted to be a Art Director for the longest time, but my major here at FIT doesn't live up to the standards that I thought it would. Some classes I take such as 3D design which require the creation of 3D shapes using paper make me think, "what the hell am I taking this class for?". Art Directors in magazines I highly doubt will ever need classes like that in handy, and its extremely discouraging. At the same time, I've been looking at The Sartorialist, and other blogs that emphasize the fashion editor, and its making me warm up to the idea of such a job. I always feared it because I don't consider myself a very good stylist on other people, but I can associate pieces with a theme/time/ etc., which is what most fashion editors do. I always spend some days just walking around, looking at locations and conceptualizing for a photoshoot ( a lot of good places are on the west side near financial district) and what the model would wear. The Creative Director position was always in the back of my head, but that is obviously a positon you have to work your way up to. I feel like either by the end of this year, or early next year, I'll be more exposed to the industry and have a better idea of what I want my role to be in it. My internship this summer will be a VERY BIG part of it all.

spring cleaning.

So its 47 degrees outside here in Chelsea, which is considerably warm from the past few days, and I'm cleaning my room right now before I go to the gym at 3. Heres my desk on a typical Sunday.
Macbook Pro, Wallet, Water, stack of Magazines, air freshner, maker/colored pencil box, homework project, ID and keys. TOTALLY NOT STRATEGICALLY PLACED! LOL

magazine culture.

So, for the 2nd project in my Foundation II class, we have to do a 16 page spread on a specific type of culture. It can be anything, and has to be illustrated in words and images. So, I was thinking of doing my book on fashion magazines, and its history and culture. I'm going to research on the history of fashion magazines, and include that in my book. For images, I was thinking of doing very romantic still-life's of various fashion magazines layed out on my desk in different positions with natural lighting. Anyone have any ideas as to which magazines I should feature? Drop me a email! metallicmarker11@gmail.com

boot camp.

So, its official. I will be interning this summer at ANOTHER top fashion magazine in the Conde Nast Building. I feel honored to work with such a prestigious magazine, and you will once again experience the life of a fashion intern in NYC. This internship is going to be intense, ill be working at this magazine for 3 months instead of 1 1/2th, 5 days a week from 8AM to whenever its time to leave. Yes, I just said whenever its time to leave. I know that its a big sacrifice, but there are TOO MANY people in this WORLD who would KILL to  have this internship I'm about to embark on. I'd say this is the ultimate internship of all internships. I'm literally sacrificing a summer for this, so it HAS to be worth it when its all said and done.  I'll be there for a total of 93 days, in the heat, going on runs, checking in samples, and doing anything else the staff needs of me.  Stay tuned.

AND PRAY FOR ME!!!!! LOL

back in the city.

So now I've moved back to Manhattan from my house in Westchester for the spring semester at FIT! I plan on working hard this semester and having lots of fun! Now I don't have to travel like a crazy ass to the internship, I can just walk up the block, lol.

internship moves.

So my internship is almost over, and I'm currently thinking about my future options. This spring semester I'm not interning, so I will be at FIT telling you guys about all the craziness. My ideal option is a paid summer internship for a fashion magazine. Bigger than the one I'm at now. Don't worry guys, I'll reveal what magazine it was when I'm done with it. Since a family friend has told me her friend is interning at Italian Vogue, maybe that could be an option? Or, since I'm already kinda sorta on friendly terms with the Art Director at W, a internship there? I'm not sure whether I want to continue into fashion internships or delve into art internships. Since I really want the 3 fashion to 2 art internships, most likely whatever comes this summer will be a fashion internship. Before my current internship I had no internship experience and I worked at a few shows. Now I've got this magazine, and I'm reporting many shows this season instead of just working backstage, so hopefully that will look impressive for a 18 year old. haha.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions of where I should intern next?

my graphic design for marc jacobs

i rarely share any of my graphic designs with you guys, so to ring in the new year, im going to start sharing them with you in upcoming posts. as you already know, i attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, and my major is Communication Design (Graphic Design). most of our projects are very blank, and we can incorporate our own styles into it. i always take the fashion route, and one of the many things i've done for my first semester is this handbag lookbook design for Marc Jacobs. i made it out of marker and paper. i received  a B for it in my class.

what do you think? in the upcoming weeks, ill be posting more of my fashion related graphic designs to share with you guys =] click here to look up Marc Jacobs fashion.

bye.

1st semester grades

so i've reccieved some of my first semester grades from FIT. one of the highlights is my A in Introduction to Photography. it's probably one of my favorite classes, and I enjoyed the time with my professor. this semester for most of my classes I tried to incorporate fashion in everything. so for photography we did a lot of projects, one including imitating the style of a photographer. so i chose Juergen Teller, one of my favorites.
heres some of his work

and heres my version for my class ( i got an A)

i also did another photoshoot with the same model (below)  for my final project. (another A)

I really enjoyed this class, hopefully i get another photo class to work on my photography skills.

bye.

FIRST POST

google-site-verification: google45c91c3889c0d1aa.html

hey guys, and welcome to the faindent. your gonna have a lot of fun reading this blog, as i will posting it. im currently a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, a intern at a top fashion magazine, and a graphic design student ( at FIT). this means that ive got a lottttttt to share with you on my climb to the top. theres always intresting things going on, and hey, why not share it with the world. so lets get started.....(p.s. don't worry about punctuation, life is too short for capital letters and grammar grannies =p)

so today is my 3rd?4th? ok w.e. day at my internship. im currently a fashion intern, and its a lot of work but its definetly worth it. ive bumped into a few nice things (anyone say mcqueen armadillo shoes?) and its definetly a intreresting enviorment. some of the things these editors get as gifts are just insane.

FIT ( abbreviated Fashion Institute) is definitely an experience. it is pretty much like the fashion industry in high school form, and yes i said high school form not college. theres so much drama, its like the real world on crack. everyones skinny, smokes, and swears they are the next big thing. which works in some cases. but not when your in class -______-. its definitely a good school for connections, ive already done fashion shows for fashion week, and made some connections that can be essential for me working the shows next season. hopefully.

so yeah, im a graphic design student. so what the hell am i doing in fashion ? well i love graphics and fashion so i aspire to be an art director for a fashion magazine. i swear i have the largest VOGUE collection ever. and all i do is look at the layouts and fashion editorials. i love it. especially the art direction of paris vogue. heres actually the screensaver on my mac.

they always have amazing art direction. and i love US VOGUE 's use of red. kind of reminds me of lipstick. idk why....

well thats all for today folks. and every post, ill be updating with the latest from my fashion filled life, as well as what i notice from the fashion world.

bye.
